CIRCLE RECOMMENDS: DAVID CRONENBERG’S WIFE ‘DON’T WAIT TO BE HUNTED TO HIDE’ – EXPLORATIONS IN THE DARK AND TWISTED SIDE OF HUMANITY

One of the most interesting albums of 2012, ‘Don’t Wait to be Hunted to Hide’, by anti-folk masters David Cronenberg’s Wife, challenges even their biggest fans confronting head-on, the subject of (often male) evil and warped sexuality.

Singer & songwriter Tom Mayne explains: “The new album is very dark but that’s always been part of David Cronenberg’s Wife. The themes in the album present problems and they are hard to listen to but I’ve always liked that kind of art that takes a difficult issue and tries to explore it.”

“I would hope that people listening to the album would see that this is not condoning these actions, but I don’t think anything should be off-limits when it comes to creative work.”

“With this album it’s the nature of evil and the nature of sexuality and masculinity,” explains
Tom.
“There are serious issues here: the statistics on how many men get prosecuted for rape, for example. These kinds of things happen every day and the perpetrator often doesn’t get caught,”
“These are, to my mind, anti-men songs against the men who do these things.”
In its wide open exploration of the nature of evil ‘Don’t Wait to be Hunted to Hide’ may lyrically shock some, but music, like all art, should challenge and push boundaries.
David Cronenberg’s Wife are: Singer & songwriter Tom Mayne, keyboard player and bassist Rhian Tucker, lead guitarist Mark Watts, drummer Stuart Saunderson, violin player and guitarist Thomas Alder and bassist Ian Button.
